Visitors Services Assistant

The Block Museum of Art’s Visitor Services department is seeking Visitor Services Assistants who are able to ensure the safety of works of art on display, proactively enhance the visitor's experience through excellent visitor services, greet the public, field basic facilities questions, and act as liaison to the Visitor Services Info desk.

$15/hr schedule of 8-20 hours per week

 

Responsibilities: 
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and dedicated. 
  • Provide critical visitor services and security support during regular and extended public hours, programs, movies and special events.
  • Ensure a warm, friendly, helpful atmosphere in the Museum/galleries. • Participate in cross-trainings to assist on the exhibit floor Qualifications: •
  • Ability to work well with the public
  • Professional, congenial, and display a confident manner with the public • Reliable, flexible, and willing to work evenings and weekends when required
  • Must successfully complete security background examination

Preparator Opportunities

Under the supervision of the Lead Preparator and Chief Registrar, preparators are responsible for all aspects involving the physical installation and care of exhibitions and collections, and work closely with other museum professionals and artists. 

The Block Museum Exhibits and Collections Department maintains an ongoing roster of preparators and is happy to meet anyone interested in being added to our list, as our crew numbers fluctuate with each exhibition.

Typical Duties

Engage in all activities related to the turnaround of exhibitions from gallery preparation to art handling, including:

  • moving crates into and out of the building
  • packing and unpacking objects
  • building and painting temporary walls
  • preparing cases, platforms and mounts for display
  • installing signage and graphics
  • installing works of art
  • assisting visiting artists with site-specific work
  • coordinating and installing audio-visual components
  • lighting exhibits

Assist with special projects, collections care and maintenance, external pick-up & delivery.

Required Skills

  • ability to perform tasks in professional manner according to established standards
  • solid work ethic, collaborative spirit and cheerful flexibility
  • ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • meticulous attention to detail and safety
