The Living Room

Opening in Fall 2025, the start of the academic year, The Living Room is a drop-in space at The Block Museum that invites students and visitors to gather, reflect, and connect with artworks in the museum’s collection. Designed with Northwestern students in mind but open to all, the Living Room offers a welcoming environment for conversation and study.

At its core, Block Living Room is about deepening relationships with the museum’s collection, one great work at a time. Artworks on view are drawn from The Block’s holdings and rotate regularly, encouraging return visits and fresh perspectives. Each work is accompanied by student-generated reflection questions—developed in partnership with The Block Museum Student Associates (BMSAs)—in order to spark reflection, dialogue, and personal engagement. By bringing the collection into a casual, comfortable setting, The Living Room reimagines the museum as a space where art becomes part of everyday life: a catalyst for insight, creativity, conversation, and community.
