Children explore at a Block Museum event

K-12 Resources

The Block welcomes visitors of all ages! Exploring our museum is a wonderful way to expand a young person's mind and encourage them to think both critically and creatively. We aim to inspire and develop a new generation of artists, scholars, and arts professionals by providing experiential learning opportunities bridging the classroom and the world beyond.  We are always free and open to all.

Educators can schedule a tour of the museum for their class groups.

Families can join us for one of our family programs.

screen-shot-2019-10-20-at-11.07.57-am.pngIn 2019, The Block Museum mounted the exhibition Caravans of Gold, Fragments in Time: Art, Culture, and Exchange Across Medieval Saharan Africa, the first major exhibition addressing the scope of Saharan trade and the shared history of West Africa, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe from the eighth to sixteenth centuries. The groundbreaking exhibition offered original resources and curriculum for incorporating the history of medieval Africa into K-12 curriculum. The Block Museum of Art is proud to support an educational website devoted to the exhibition. Here you will find in-depth information about the Caravans of Gold exhibition, including images and information about key objects and artworks from the exhibition, interviews with experts, and resources to support teaching and learning.
