Join the Block Museum Student Associates in The Living Room for a close look at five abstract lithographs by Bruce Conner that playfully invite reflection on the act of perception. The Living Room is a drop-in space at The Block Museum that invites students and other visitors to gather, reflect, and connect with a small selection from the museum’s collection, rotating each month. Every Wednesday, from 3-5PM, free coffee and tea is provided.

Block Museum Student Associates (BMSAs) are Northwestern undergraduates representing interdisciplinary fields of study from across the university. In the galleries, BMSAs extend welcome to our exhibitions and permanent collection and engage visitors in conversations about artworks that spark their curiosity.

Participation level – medium, participants are encouraged to respectfully share their own perspectives, thoughts, and questions throughout the Art Talk.

Programs are open to all, on a first-come first-served basis. RSVPs not required, but appreciated.

Journalism and Art History (2027)

I discovered the Block as a first-year reporting on an art talk for a journalism class. I found every excuse to come back to the museum thereafter! The BMSA program is a wonderful community of faculty & peers across academic disciplines/specializations, and our conversations have indelibly shaped my passion for contemporary art. Outside the Block, I’m involved with Little Joe Ventures at The Garage, where I’m exploring entrepreneurship through art, technology and design.

English Literature and Legal Studies (2027)

My name is Tori Montinola, and I study English literature and legal studies, focusing on medieval manuscripts and writings. I’m also an international student from Manila, Philippines, so I’m quite far from home. I am incredibly excited to be working with The Block Museum here at Northwestern with many talented and passionate people who aren’t afraid to make that known. I’m a big fan of art exploring religion, revolution, and Biblical allegory, so my favorite artists are Francisco Goya, Hieronymus Bosch, and Gustave Dore.
