No prior film or photography skills needed. This workshop demonstrates how to shoot black & white photos and develop the negatives in nontoxic (and cheap!) developer made from instant coffee. No prior film or photography skills needed. Cameras, film, and materials provided; we will shoot, develop, and scan photos.
Whether you are a curious beginner wanting to see the whole process from beginning to end or an experienced photographer interested in using eco-friendly darkroom strategies, join us!

In the workshop, we will:
• Practice photographing each other creatively
• Learn or review the use of analogue still cameras by shooting your own photos
• Develop your black & white negative film using formulas and fixers made from minimally manufactured, low environmental impact developers
• Experiment with materials that define a location’s geographic stamp
• Take away a bibliography of individuals, orgs, processes, and resources to continue

Free workshop; all materials included. Lunch will be provided.

This workshop is supported by a grant from the Earth Rising Foundation and the Climate Crisis + Media Arts Working Group of the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs at Northwestern University.
