Directions and Parking

Access to the Block Museum will change beginning June 18 as the University begins a construction project. Click here for the latest information.

The Museum is located on the southeastern portion of Northwestern University's Evanston campus, near the lake and just off Sheridan Road. See the campus map for more details.

Directions to the Museum from the CTA Purple Line and the Metra Union Pacific North Line are also available.

Parking

• Weekdays: Parking is available in the University parking lot just off Sheridan Road and south of Arts Circle Drive. A parking permit is required to park in this lot weekdays until 4 p.m. (parking is free after 4 p.m.) One-day visitor parking permits may be purchased for $8.25 (new price) at the Block Museum's gift shop or at the Northwestern University parking office, located at 1819 Hinman Avenue. Please obtain a permit before parking your vehicle in the lot. Permits should be placed on the rear view mirror of your car with the information side facing out through the windshield.

• Weekends: Parking is free in the university parking lot just off Sheridan Road and south of Arts Circle Drive.

Driving Directions

For more information on getting to Evanston and Northwestern University from surrounding areas, see driving directions to campus. Below you will find directions to the Museum once you are near or on campus.

From the south:

  • Going north on Sheridan Rd. from south Evanston, you'll find the entrance to Northwestern's south campus approximately one block north of the intersection of Sheridan, Clark St., and Judson Ave.
  • You will see a large Northwestern University sign ahead as you get closer to the entrance. Take the Campus Dr. entrance on your right where Sheridan curves sharply to the left (westbound).
  • You may park in the two-story parking lot on the right (permit required weekdays before 4 p.m.) To continue to the Museum, turn right at the stop sign and proceed east on Arts Circle Dr.
  • The road will veer north up a slight hill. The Museum is the glass, steel and limestone building located on the Arts Circle. 

From the north:

  • Going south on Sheridan Rd. from north Evanston, you will pass the campus on your left.  
  •  Near the south end of campus, Sheridan will curve to the left (eastbound) at the Northwestern Arch. Follow Sheridan as it veers east.  
  • Enter the Northwestern campus by turning left onto Campus Dr., just before Sheridan curves south again.  
  • You may park in the two-story parking lot on the right (permit required weekdays before 4 p.m.) To continue to the Museum, turn right at the stop sign and proceed east on Arts Circle Dr. 
  • The road will veer north up a slight hill. The Museum is the glass, steel and limestone building located on the Arts Circle. 

From the west:

  • Take Dempster St. east into Evanston. 
  • Turn left at Chicago Ave. and proceed to Church St.
  • Turn right on Church and follow it to Sheridan Rd. Turn left onto Sheridan.
  • Turn right on to Campus Dr. as Sheridan bends west (to the left)
  • You may park in the two-story parking lot on the right (permit required weekdays before 4 p.m.) To continue to the Museum, turn right at the stop sign and proceed east on Arts Circle Dr. 
  • The road will veer north up a slight hill. The Museum is the glass, steel and limestone building located on the Arts Circle.
