(Alfred Hitchcock, 1954, USA, 35mm, 112 min.)

Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller is famous for its depiction of a certain kind of voyeuristic looking, but it also features one of the most fascinating soundtracks in Hollywood history. The film lacks a traditional musical score, which allows other components of the soundtrack to be used and appreciated in a rare way. This special screening kicks off a year-long investigation of the film’s sound design, which will culminate in the Spring with a project-based course sponsored by the MA in Sound Arts and Industries, entitled “Ear Window”.

In Person: Seven time-Academy Award-winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom (Saving Private Ryan, Titanic, Jurassic Park, Ready Player One, Toy Story, Finding Nemo) will introduce the film. Rydstrom is legendary for his artful use of sound to tell stories in film, and he is an expert on Hitchcock, making him the perfect person to open our ears to a new way of appreciating this classic film.
