(Maryam Sepehri, 2017, Iran/USA, digital, 62 min.)

A story told between two continents and spanning half a century, Mouth Harp in Minor Key beautifully illuminates its subject, Northwestern Professor Hamid Naficy. Through his many published books, Naficy is well known as a scholar of Iranian, post-colonial, and diaspora cinema. At once a uniquely intimate portrait and an examination of life under exile, Sepehri’s film contextualizes Naficy’s many professional accomplishments within his personal experience as well as the political and social history of Iran and the United States.

Filmmaker Maryam Sepehri and Hamid Naficy will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

The program is sponsored by the Middle East and North African Studies Program and the Department of Radio/Television/Film
