Modernisms: Exhibition Tours

Modernism tours

Join us for modern art with a global perspective!

Seeking to expand Western perspectives of modern art, Modernisms: Iranian, Turkish and Indian Highlights from NYU’s Abby Grey Collection surveys art from three nations where unique and vibrant forms of modernism sprang forth in the 1960s and 70s. Challenging histories of artistic modernism that too often begin and end in the West, Modernisms explores an under-recognized flowering of innovation and risk-taking in art beyond Europe and North America.

Sunday Tours

While the exhibition Modernisms is open through April 5, 2020 - all remaining public tours are currently canceled.

The Block’s gallery tours are led by Northwestern students from across different academic disciplines. Students learn about Block exhibitions from the Museum’s curators and educators and through their own research. They are encouraged to experiment with different approaches to sharing what they have learned.  On their gallery tours, students choose specific works of art with which to engage visitors. Interweaving information and conversation, these interactive tours are designed to help you look closely and make meaning of what you see at The Block.

These free tours kick off in the museum lobby at 3PM and typically last 45-60 minutes, no RSVP necessary.
