While teaching at Davis, he founded the journal SOURCE, Music of the Avant Garde in 1966. He has composed over seventy pieces of music and has been widely published and recorded, with a premiere recording of his composition, Improvisations for Orchestra and Jazz Soloists performed by the New York Philharmonic in 1961.
