This over-the-top modern Western from Thailand celebrates and parodies Thai action melodramas of the 50s and 60s while suggesting Sergio Leone’s stylish camerawork and Douglas Sirk’s rich color palate. In the spirit of western, whether they were shot in Europe or America, Tears of the Black Tiger has showdowns and style to spare. An immensely enjoyable example of how the western lives on.
